News: Wrath of Kings beta rules

Wrath of Kings have released their beta rules for previewing. These are the same mechanics shown off at GenCon and are not the final product. You can download the pdf here.

Tutorial: Armored Greatcoat

Here is a quick tutorial on how I made the armored greatcoat. 

Materials needed:

Milliput (yellow grey)

Super Sculpey (Firm)

No hole glass glitter beads

And sculpting tools

Iron Kingdoms (part 3)

This past weekend we had our first encounter with the Iron Kingdoms campaign. This was very much a learning experience as my total amount of Warmachines equates to two games. The mechanics are very easy to learn and the play was very smooth. Here is who I brought to the fight:

Vasily
Human, Khador, Arcane Mechanik/Man-at-Arms

Thoughts on this character is that he is more of a supportive class. His primary role is helping with repairs to Steamjacks or creating new Mechanika items for the party. Being a Will Weaver allows him to run magic spells a little more forcefully than a Focus Caster (as long as he doesn't fail a Fatigue roll) and his Arcantik Bolt spell is useful for shutting down enemy Steamjacks. With his Polarity Shield spell any charges against his front arc are canceled and his Defense Line ability adds +1 to his ARM while in base-to-base with a friendly character. This lets him act as a nice decoy when in city terrain. 

Iron Kingdoms (part 2)

The time has come for modding and sculpting on my Iron Kingdoms miniature. The base sculpt of the miniature is a Widowmaker Marksman. After cleaning off any mold lines, I spent some time with a chisel and file removing the fur trim on the bottom of his great coat. After that I used a mix of miliput and super sculpey and created armor plates, the cobblestone base, and the shield. Once I get my bits order in I can start on the head swap and left hand.

Iron Kingdoms preview

The local painters group along with a few fellow gamers will be starting a campaign next month for Iron Kingdoms RPG.

Airbrush 101

If you have been on the fence when it comes to getting a airbrush for your hobby needs but dont know the first thing about them then this video is for you. It is a tad bit long but the information is great. I learned a few new things even though I've been airbrushing for a while.

Personal project

I don't play Warmachines, yet, but when I started taking on commissions I caught the bug. After seeing the colossals, it was pretty much a full on case of shiny syndrome.
This is the 25 point force that I'll be painting for myself (high standard) to learn how to play the game.

Finished these up for a local commission. The crew are still on the painting table and should be finished shortly.

Relic Knights week on Throne of Angels.

As the Relic Knights kickstarter campaign progresses along at an amazing pace, we are blessed that our good buddy over at Throne of Angels landed an interview with the main man of Cool Mini or Not. ToA will have a whole week dedicated to Relic Knights and to start it all off is this overview video.

Gencon wrap up

GenCon floor walk (Dust: Warfare)

Dust: Warfare is an amazing game if you're into weird war and walking tanks :D
I got into this game not too long ago and I am impressed by the rules and amazing looking miniatures. This year at GenCon Fantasy Flight had the newest expansion rules to bring the Russians into the game.

The area Fantasy Flight took up at GenCon was massive and only a 1/5 was actually the selling area. All weekend long the demo areas were filled with people checking out the array of games FF puts out. New this year is a games called X-Wing which is based on the Star Wars films.

So the CMON area was huge, I mean really huge, they took up 3 stalls and each one was packed full of stuff. All the staff that was there were really helpful and I got to demo some games that I look forward to play in the future.

Cipher Studios was part of the CMON booth of epicness.
Got in a Anima Tactics demo and took photos of their amazing display case which had both AT and Helldorado.

Dont know anything about this game? Well then you haven't been following the Throne of Angels blog or channel. This is a games currently in the works and will be produced by CMON. If you haven't seen any of minis in the line then you're for a treat. The demo of the games was exciting and I picked up on the rules pretty quick.

Gencon floor walk (Soda Pop Miniatures)

Soda Pop had a very active booth that was part of the large CMON space. I spent a lot of cash picking up expansions for Super Dungeon Explore (one for me and two for friends) along with some minis for Soda Pop's upcoming game Relic Knights. Speaking of, Relic Knights has a Kickstarter campaign going on right now.

Gencon floor walk (Privateer Press)

The space Privateer Press took up was huge!. One half was for demos of Level 7, Warmachine/Hordes, and Bodger. Their store half had a line circling it the whole con (which made taking photos of display cases interesting).

GenCon floor walk (Catalyst Game Labs: Leviathans)

Leviathans: Monsters in the Sky is a alt history air ship battle game from Catalyst Games Labs. I had loads of with the demo and the pre-painted minis are nicely sculpted.

If you're into mech combat (who isn't) then you'll want to check out Heavy Gear from Dream Pod 9.
They had some amazing looking mechs in their display cases and the demo was well worth trying out. Also in the work is a new video game from Stompy Bot.

Got in a nice demo at the MERCS booth and also picked up some great looking game counters, a measuring template, and a patch to add to the collection. Looking forward to painting up my KemVar troops and getting some play in.

Wyrd Miniatures had a nice demo area and were showing off their latest plastic releases for Malifaux and the new card game Evil Baby Orphanage.

Countdown to Gencon

It's official and I'll be at GenCon next week. I'll be there assisting with Beasts of War as a cameraman filming interviews and checking out all the cool stuff at the con. Keep an eye out as I'll be posting videos and photos throughout the trip.

Miniature Exchange

On the local forum there was a painting challenge of sorts that I threw my name into. The challenge was a mini exchange, in which random members would get paired up and swap a mini to paint within the month time frame.
I was given a dwarf and free reigns on the painting scheme.
Here is what I have so far with less than a week to go before the deadline:

Throne of Everblight

Finished this battle engine for the Hordes faction Legion of Everblight.

I was rather ecstatic to tackle this beast and it got me to try out the two brush blending technique. Never painting of this faction before I searched the interwebs for a nice friendly tutorial to get the skin just right.

These came to me as a commission form a local father looking to get him and his son into tabletop gaming. 

Bombs & Bunnies - Avatar design ideas

Just trying to get a feel for what people imagine their Avatars to be for B&B. This game is set in a digital world where your imagination can run wild. Cyberpunk and anime give a lot of room for what someone's character can be.

A big order has come down the pipeline. Like the title reads Battle Engines from Privateer Press will be the next big project for commission. These are what you'll be seeing in the next few weeks, once they arrive that is.

So close yet so far away

Over the weekend I traveled down to do the Color Me Rad fun run with some friends and it just so happens that Blue Table Painting studio was only a few minutes away from where I would be crashing for the night. As I got to their place I noticed it was empty of life so I called up the number on the site and had a little chat with the Shawn. It was just my luck that the rare chance I make it to that part of the state is the same weekend BTP is out of town.
The dice gods were not with me that day.
